Singapore’s international airport is called Changi International Airport. It is located on the east end of the country, and boasts 3 terminals, plus a low cost carrier terminal. One of the great things about Changi International Airport is that there are many transport options available from the airport to the city center. Here are some options on how to get from the airport to the city in Singapore.
1.) Travel by MRT Subway Train
One great convenience is that the MRT subway train is connected to Changi International Airport via the East-West Green Line. You can catch the train from the basements of either Terminal 2 or Terminal 3. The only thing you need to take note of is that the MRT train will stop at Tanah Merah Interchange station from where you will need to switch trains to the city. If you are traveling during peak hours, then it can get crowded in the train that you switch over.
2.) Travel by Taxi
In all the terminals at Changi International Airport, they have taxi queues right near the exit of the arrival halls. Here you will be able to easily catch a taxi cab to the city. You will need to wait in line, and when it is your turn the airport staff will direct you to the cab that is in queue. This is a very orderly system, therefore the line moves pretty fast. A ride to the city center should cost no more than 40 S$ (Singapore dollar).
3.) Travel by Bus
There are two types of buses you can take to the city from the airport. The first type is the public transport buses. The public transport can be taken in the basement level of terminals 1, 2, and 3, and it will cost about 2 S$ to the city. The bus number to take is bus number 36, and it will take about an hour’s journey. Do take note that bus number 36 only operates between 6:00am and midnight.
The second type is the airport shuttle service. Basically these are like private hired taxi services. The rates are a bit more expensive. At the time of writing, the rates are as follows:
• 4-seater Airport Limousine (S$45 per trip to any destination in Singapore)
• 7-seater Large Taxi (S$50 per trip to any destination in Singapore)
• 9-seater Mini-Bus (S$50 per charter to any destination in Singapore)
• Airport Shuttle Bus ($9 per passenger to selected downtown hotels. – you will need to check with airport staff for more information on which hotels are on the list. )
To make a booking with this second type of transportPsychology Articles, you simply approach the ground transport desk at the arrival halls of each terminal. They are open 24 hours a day.
Traveling from Singapore’s international airport to the city is very convenient. Therefore by referring to this quick summary of the transportation available you will be able to quickly choose your mode of transport to the city upon arrival in Singapore.
